No, it is not controversial. Any old dictionary would have a clear definition. Any book on physiology or biology would have it. Any book on parenting. It is rather simple - females have specific sex-determination chromosomes and are biologically responsible for gestation. No male can become that no matter hormones he takes, surgery he undergoes, etc., etc.
